Jerusalem: 28th Adar 1931
A descendant of the Zlotschover Maggid and held in the highest esteem as a man of extraordinary piety, R. Shlomkeh Zhviller, as he was affectionally known, left the Ukraine for Jerusalem in 1926. He led a life of extreme spiritual purity and humility.
R. Ya’akov Yitzchak Teitelbaum (d. 1933) was one of the leading activists and organizers of the Ashkenazic community of Jerusalem.
Otzar HaChesed Keren Shmuel was founded by (and later named for) Rabbi Shmuel Salant in 1906, with the purpose of serving as a free-loan fund for Jerusalem building projects, as a conduit for donations to Jerusalem institutions, and essentially as a quasi-bank allowing for the financial independence of the Old Yishuv.
