Vienna: Thursday of Parshath Beshalach 1928

Son of the first Rebbe of Chortkov, R. Duvid Moshe (1828–1903) and son-in-law of Rabbi Avraham Ya'akov of Sadigura (1820–83); who were each, the sons of R. Yisroel of Ruzhyn.

Among the founders of Agudath Israel, R. Yisroel Friedman of Chortkov was a remarkable Chassidic leader with thousands of followers including many Torah giants such as Rabbi Meir Shapira of Lublin, and Rabbi Meir Arik of Tarnow. Due to the upheavals of World War I, the Rebbe left Galicia and re-established his court in Vienna.
