Letter from Rabbi Yechezkel Berstein Author of Divrei Yechezkel – Slabodka, Adar 1925
Lengthy letter (2 pages) handwritten and signed by R. Yechezkel Berstein, dean of the Or Yisrael yeshiva in Slabodka-Kovno. Slabodka, 23rd Adar 1925.
Interesting letter on the history of the Or Yisrael intermediate yeshiva for young students in Slabodka. Addressed to his colleague, R. Moshe Finkel (son of the Alter of Slabodka), his predecessor as dean of the yeshiva, who had just immigrated to Eretz Yisrael, and served as dean of the Slabodka yeshiva in Hebron founded that year.
R. Yechezkel Berstein, who was a lecturer in the yeshiva at that time, reports to R. Moshe in this letter on the state of the yeshiva, the level of various students, their preparations for the upcoming examinations and various other matters relating to the running of the yeshiva (including the appointment of R. Yosef Farber as yeshiva dean).
The letter was written on the official stationery of R. Moshe Finkel, recipient of the letter.
R. Yechezkel Berstein (1889-1941, perished in the Holocaust), prominent student of the Knesset Yisrael yeshiva in Slabodka, and later lecturer and dean of the Or Yisrael intermediate yeshiva. Author of Divrei Yechezkel, a classic work used for profound yeshiva Torah study.
