Letter from the Chafetz Chaim – Radin, 1932
Typewritten letter, stamped and signed by R. "Yisrael Meir HaKohen", the Chafetz Chaim. Radin (Radun), Tammuz 1932.
In this letter addressed to R. Merzbach in Darmstadt (Germany), the Chafetz Chaim appeals for financial assistance on behalf of the yeshiva in Radin, describing the dire financial straits of the yeshiva. The Chafetz Chaim concludes the letter with blessings "May the merit of this great deed… stand for him, and may he be blessed with life, peace and all goodness, may his eyes view the speedy salvation of Israel and raising of the prestige of the Torah… Yisrael Meir HaKohen".
The recipient of the letter, R. Yonah Merzbach (1900-1980), rabbi of Darmstadt and later dean of the Kol Torah yeshiva and compiler of the Talmudic Encyclopedia.
