The letter was written by R. Shlomo Zalman Bahara"n and is signed jointly by himself and by R. Yosef Chaim Zonnenfeld. In the letter, the addressee is requested to distribute funds according to the guidelines of R. Shmuel Salant. It was written during the final years of R. Shmuel Salant's life, when R. Yosef Chaim Zonnenfeld served as his assistant.
R. Shlomo Zalman Bahara"n (trans: "son of R. N.") was the son of R. Nachum Levi (better known as R. Nachum of Shadik) and a Rosh Yeshiva in Jerusalem. He was simultaneously very active in the establishment of new neighborhoods in the city.
