Certificate of a Jew Who Found Respectable Work in the City Administration of Lvov Under Nazi Occupation – Extremely Rare
Before us are two certificates which shed light on each other.
a. A soldier certificate in the Red Army of a Jew by the name of Edward Karnual from the city of Lvov, Ukraine. Date of enrollment: 20/12/1940. In the certificate is noted that his civilian occupation is an accountant, that he speaks German and Italian, and that he is Jewish.
b. A work certificate of the same citizen, which was given by the City Administration of Lvov on the date 06/08/1941. At that time Lvov was under Nazi occupation. In the certificate is written that the citizen is employed as a bookkeeper.
In June and July, the German decrees were published, and the Jews were commanded to wear a Yellow Star. At the same time the Judenrat was established. It is amazing to discover that a Jew worked in the City Administration. It is probable that this was because of the importance of his career and his command in German as well as Ukrainian. The new regime was in great need of experienced workers who also knew German.
Up until when did he work there, and what happened to that Jew? We do not know.
Condition: Very Good.
