A CENTRAL ASIAN SILVER-MOUNTED JAMBIYA DAGGER WITH WOOTZ BLADE, 19TH CENTURY
This Central Asian Jambiya is beautifully decorated with silver fittings on the guard, grip, pommel, and scabbard. Every inch of the silvered surfaces has been finely engraved in the traditional style. The Wootz blade has the usual dramatic curvature of a Jambiya as well as the strong raised mid-rib along the entire length of the blade. The handle, in addition to its silver mountings, has a dark brown wooden or horn grip, and the pommel is topped with a polished carnelian agate that has been mounted within the silver.
Central Asia, 19th Century.
L: 14.75 in. (37.47 cm.);
Condition: The blade is in excellent condition. Silver mounts are well preserved. The tip is slightly bent. The hilt shows several small cracks.
