A CAST BRONZE GERMAN EAGLE SCULPTURE BY PROF. OTTO POERTZEL
Prof. Otto Poertzel (German, 1876 - 1963), a cast bronze sculpture of an eagle with spread wings. Inset with a beak carved of natural material. Covered with a dark brown patina. The plinth is in the form of a ledge, inscribed with the artist's signature "Prof. Poertzel." Mounted on an oval stone pedestal.
Note: Professor Otto Poertzel was a German sculptor, who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich with Professor Erwin Kurz and Adolf von Hildebrandt and exhibited at numerous international exhibitions, including in St. Louis and Brussels Poertzel. He became one of the most prominent sculptors in Germany and was for many years under the special protection of the Duke of Saxe-Coburg- Gotha who gave many commission orders. Many of his earlier works were to be found in the salons of German Royal Courts and a few of the most beautiful were purchased by the late King of Bulgaria.
