School of Pavel Filonov, possibly Vsevolod Angelovich Sulimo-Samuilo (1903-1965), a watercolor, ink, and graphite on paper semi-abstract drawing depicting a man and hands growing from a tree. Stamped lower right with partially legible text "Commander of Fifth Squadron, Northwestern Army".Provenance: Shapiro Auctions, NY, April 16, 2011, Lot 253.Pavel Filonov (1883-1941) was a Russian and Soviet painter, illustrator and poet. He was also an avant-garde art theorist.
