Manuscript of the Ramban’s commentary on Mishnah Seder Moed in its original Arabic with a decorated colorful title page. Titles are calligraphed in color ink and complemented by impressive illustrations.

It is well-known that the Rambam’s original commentary on the Mishnah was written in Arabic. Sefarim from Yemen that bear the Rambam’s original text in Arabic are regarded as the most authentic and accurate of all, as Yemenite Jewry was scrupulous about copying text precisely and methodically, without changing or modifying even a single letter of the text. Yemenite Jews further accepted the Rambam as their final halachic authority and studied his works extensively and in depth throughout many generations.

One particularly remarkable facet of the Yemenite version of the Rambam’s commentary on Mishnah is that they were the recipients of the very last manuscript written by the Rambam himself who inserted changes and revisions to the text of his original manuscript of the commentary.

The title page bears the following inscription:

“The Rambam zt”l’s commentary on Mishnayot, written by me, the humble of scribes who is as dust to the feet of our sages, Chaim ben Moshe Eli… Sanaa, Yemen.”

Sanaa, circa 20th century. Page Count: [110] leaves. Page Size: 23x26 cm. All tractate titles, chapters and opening words are illustrated and adorned with impressive designs. Comments in margins. Water stains, mostly in margins. Old, worn binding.
