RODERICH FICK HITLER'S ARCHITECT (2)
Lot of two items from the estate of Roderich Fick (1886-1955), Adolf Hitler first favorite architect. His personal copy of the book 'Quer Durchs Gronlandeis' (Across the Greenland ice sheet) by Alfred de Quervain, stamped on the half-title with Fick's personal stamp. Published by Ernst Reinhardt, Munich, 1914, 198 pages. Fick took part in the 1912 Greenland expedition and considered it one of his most important accomplishments. The second item also relates to the Greenland expedition, an original ink drawing of a Viking ship with a swastika on the ship's sail, signed by an unidentified artist 'KO', set into in a brass frame. Illegible pencil inscription on the verso of the frame. Fick was a German architect most prominent during the Third Reich, a professor at the Munich Technical University, and Hitler's favorite architect before Albert Speer. Fick is well known as the architect of many commissioned buildings at Adolf Hitler's Obersalzberg complex, such as the Waffen-SS guard barrack, Bormann's villa, the hotel Platterhof, Hitler's teahouse at Mooslahnerkopfs, and the Kehlsteinhaus aka the Eagle's Nest. Book is 9.5 x 6 inches. Ink drawing is 6.5 x 6.5 inches. Overall size is 8.5 x 8 inches. Not examined outside of frame. Book bears a stamp on the half-title page. Included are letters of provenance and statement of origin from an antiques dealer in Bavaria, Germany.
