FRANZ SCHEIDIES
(1890-1942) German Generalmajor in WWII, participated in the invasion of Poland in 1939, received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves. Scheidies was killed by a Soviet sniper on 7. April 1942 on the Eastern Front. War-date letter on his letterhead, in the field, 7. February 1942, in response to congratulatory wishes for the oak leaves he received on 31. December 1941. In part: '...I wear the high award as the distinction of a regiment that, according to its motto 'Brave and Loyal', has not missed any attack in this campaign...Take these word from Generaloberst v. Seeckt as a guiding principle: 'The action is what matters!' (Das Wesentliche ist die Tat!). Signed boldly in blue ink at conclusion. Two months to the date he would be killed. Approx. 8 x 11.75 inches, small mounting remnants in the corners on the reverse, mailing folds with original transmittal envelope.
