João Coutinho became famous for his various overseas campaigns: lands of In-fuse and Mongiquale (1886-1887); occupation of Chilomo (1888); campaign against the Macololos (1889); campaign of the Namarrais (1896-1897); against Cambuemba (1897); Maganja da Costa (1898); New campaign in Barué (1902), which this work deals with. He was governor-general of Mozambique (1905-1906); he was also responsible for the portfolio of the Navy and Overseas (1909-1910). Rare.
