Civil War Union Cavalry Musician's Shell Jacket
This is an excellent example of the 12 button M1858 cavalry musician shell jacket. It has coarse brown material lining is very shredded and has green, red and white pinstripe sleeve linings. We see no markings of any kind in interior. All the buttons appear to matching with 8th button present but not attached. Both cuffs have 2 buttons. The buttons are all thin neck eagle types. The yellow bandsman piping is very faded and you can peel back areas and still see the much brighter yellow. The piping is coming unstitched on some of the comers and edges. The buttons are plain thin neck eagle general service pattern. Neck has single eyelet hook and hook loop. The condition is very good plus. The 12 button holes show light wear. The blue wool body appears to be in excellent plus condition with no mothing, staining or discoloration but both shoulder seams have 4" unstitched openings. Lining fair to good condition and has interior pocket. This is a classic musician's shell jacket in excellent condition.
