Two Hopi Pots by Members of Navasie Family
Two important Hopi pots. The first a polychrome Olla signed with a webbed frog on the bottom. The webbed frog is the symbol of the Second Frog Woman -- Joy Navasie (1919-2012) who was working from the 1950s until she retired in 1995. She is regarded as one of the most important of the Hopi potters. The second is a saucer shaped pot initialed for Maynard and Veronica Navasie. Maynard was the son of Joy "Second Frog Woman." Accompanying the pot is a red ribbon awarded to the Navasies. Note the name on the ribbon is Vivian while most sources give the name as Veronica. Measurements: 3-1/4" x 4-1/2" overall Condition: Overall good.
