bellies or buttons on their backs, and if you
pulled the strings or pushed the buttons, they
could do the most distinguished things-dance, weep,
walk, even change the way they wore their hair.
And, unlike ordinary dolls, these had already
been given names: BELLA BALLERINA, LOTTA
TEARS, WILLIE WALKIE, HAIRIETTE-names
printed in big, bold letters on their boxes. No,
