Michelle Loughery-Okanagan British Columbia: Artistic Influences; Sveva Caetani, Marina Abramovic, Georgia O 'Keeffe, Frida Kahlo & Diego Rivera

British Columbia Achievement Award-winning artist Michelle Loughery’s work stretches from massive community murals, large scale portraiture, to evocative contemporary encaustic exhibition work and mixed media gallery installations.

Loughery’s work is multi-layered and involves digital story-telling and presentation during the process of the creation of each painting or mixed media gallery installation she creates. In the process of taking away layers to reveal the work beneath the surface, she also reveals cultural stories from the development of medium she creates from the bees wax and natural pigments and fabrics. Loughery has developed a visual language through her combined multi-media work of intuition and expression and Canadian cultural presentations focused on revealing women’s stories in history.

A fierce human right advocate, Loughery's story-telling is shared in the monumental art trail of stories in the memoirs she is writing and in the ""Women of Michel "" series she is working on in her studio.

Monumental work with community inclusion is a passion of Loughery's. The mural created with the fire department and families of the first responders of 911, in New York, 2012 has been featured in the Smithsonian.

Loughery created the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame series of murals, with endorsement from many celebrities. Iconic celebrities, and organizations such as Elvis Presley Estate and celebrities such as Tim McGraw, Reba McEntire and Carrie Underwood.

Loughery has developed a visual language through her combined multi-media installation work of intuition and expression with Canadian cultural presentations ""The women of Michel"" focused on revealing women’s labour stories in history.

This revealing medium shares the stories of the thousands of people that shared their cultural stories with Loughery as she spent 30 years of her life on the streets painting wayfinding monument murals in a connected community legacy trail.

The Loughery WAYFINDER ART public art model has been the impetus for raising millions of dollars for community infrastructure around the globe. A passion for showcasing mural and community art as a social economic driver was built in Loughery growing up in the British Columbia coal mining town of Michel, BC, that was forced to rebuild after a forced relocation scheme devastated the immigrant community in the 1960's.
