A RARE CENTRAL ASIAN KARD DAGGER
With well-formed bone grips, the pommel set with an Imperial Russian silver coin dated 1828, the tangband finely chiseled, the forte set with pierced and profiled gilded silver panels. The broad single-edged, blade with back edge forged of actively-patterned wootz. In its fine Central Asian-type scabbard which takes the dagger in above the bolsters, wrought entirely of silver with gallery-work locket signed, WORK OF ‘ALI ABDALLAH AKBAR 1344 (1928/9 C.E.) and finely engraved and parcel gilded overall in characteristic Tekke Turkmen motifs, the chape with coiled silver wire detailing and faceted lotus-bud terminal. Dated 1928/9. Minor grain opening to edge. Overall length 48.9cm. The weapon of a high-ranking official. Condition II
