The Gaon Rabbi Michel Birnbaum (died 2003) was an outstanding student of the Mir Yeshiva in its glorious pre-war era. He was later appointed as the Mashgiach of Mesivta Tiferes Yerushalayim (MTJ) in New York for many decades where he became a beloved father figure to his many students. Aside from his duties in the Yeshiva, he also served on the Beis Din of Rabbi Moshe Feinstein.
