Copy that Belonged to Two Geonei HaDor: Rabbi Shmuel Kara of Zempelburg and Rabbi Ziskind of Złotów. Pri Megadim, Frankfurt Am Oder 1801.

Sefer Pri Megadim with various additions.  Frankfurt Am Oder, 1801.

Owner's signature at the top of the title page: "Belongs to me; my name is ... Alexander Ziskind ... of Złotów." This is none other than Rabbi Akiva Eiger's friend to whom he addressed the famous responsum about the cut-off vav ["ו' קטיעא"] in the passuk "briti Shalom" (Teshuvot Rabbi Akiva Eiger, Psakim 75).

Afterwards the Sefer belonged to his friend  Rabbi Shmuel Kara, av beit din of Zempelburg,   He was one of Rabbi Akiva Eiger's most prominent disciples, and Rabbi Akiva Eiger also granted him semichah. Responsa and letters to him appear in Rabbi Akiva Eiger's sefarim (Shu"t Rabbi Akiva Eiger Tanina, responsum 130, Sefer Ktav V'Chotem R' Akiva Eiger in the supplements to siman 8). His signature is only partly visible having been cut away by the binder.

Scholarly glosses appear along the sefer, most in the hand of the gaon Rabbi Shmuel Kara. They are also slight;y shaved.

Other antique unidentified signatures. Stamp: Ahron Lezer, Kosice.

Please refer to the Hebrew catalog  for a brief biography of Rabbi Shmuel Kara.
