Chidushei Rashba - Metz, 1765 – Signature & Glosses by Rabbi Yitzchak Greishaber Av Beit Din of Paks a Disciple of the Noda BiYehuda & other Hungarian Rabbis.

The Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Eizik Greishaber (1745-1823) was a prominent Torah scholar of his generation. He served as rabbi in Paks, Hungary. He was a disciple of the Noda B’Yehuda of Prague and corresponded with the Noda B’Yehuda and the Chatam Sofer regarding halachic questions. The Chatam Sofer wrote in a letter that his disciple Petachya asked him write a reference for him to HaRav HaGaon of Paks, Rabbi Yitzchak Greishaber, so that he would be willing to test his knowledge. Rabbi Gresihaber was noted for the battle he fought against Aharon Chorin regarding the kashrut status of the “shtril” [sturgeon] fish. Refer to Meorei Galicia , section 6, 31, where it notes that he was born in Krakow.

Signature of Rabbi Avraham Karpeles (1830-1895) Rabbi of Gurbe-Pinzahely. He was a renowned halachic authority in Hungary and a prized disciple of the Ksav Sofer. He organized all of the Ksav Sofer’s responsa for print upon his request. In his endorsement to Ohel Avraham, Rabbi Eliezer Zussman Sofer writes that Rabbi Avraham was the “head and glory of the yeshiva and always found favor in his argumentation with our Rabbi [the Ksav Sofer]…”

Rabbi Avraham Karpeles was the Only Bachur to Receive Semicha from the Ksav Sofer.

Rabbi Yehuda Greenwald, author of Zichron Yehuda, attests that his tremendous greatness commanded the respect of all and that he was the address for all complicated matters.

Responsa addressed to Rabbi Avraham were published in the Sefarim Resposa Ksav Sofer, Responsa Maharam Shick and Responsa Mahar”i Assad.

His authored responsa were published in Sefer Ohel Avraham by his son-in-law, Rabbi Shlomo Katz, ab”d of Sabslau.
