ANTIQUE RUSSIAN ORTHODOX JESUS CHRIST ICON IN OKLAD
An antique Russian Orthodox hand painted icon of Christ Pantocrator, The Grimm Eye, the Lord Almighty, or Savior Jesus Christ. The icon shows a shoulder length image of Jesus Christ. The reference of the iconography of the Savior on the shoulder, Savior of the main one, was the compositional formula, often used in the art of the early Middle Ages, containing the shoulder image of the Savior or the saint in a medallion. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board. Framed. Circa: 1800s. The icon is overlaid with a gilded oklad or riza, adorned with chased and engraved detailed patterns, and encrusted with stones. The icon of Jesus Christ the Almighty is one of the central images of the Christian iconography of the Savior. Antique Russian Silver Religious Items and Collectibles.
