RUSSIAN LANDSCAPE OIL PAINTING ATTR TO VERA ROCKLINE
A Russian oil on canvas Post Impressionist landscape painting attributed to Vera Rockline. The colorful painting depicts a seaside town with boats in the water in the foreground and mountains in the background. Signed lower right. Vera Rockline, 1896 to 1934, was a Russian Post Impressionist painter. The artist started her career in Moscow, studying in the studio of Ilya Mashkov, who considered her one of his most brilliant students. In 1918 she became an apprentice at Aleksandra Eksters studio in Kiev, Ukraine. Ekster, who personally knew Pablo Picasso and Guillaume Apollinaire had a great influence on Rocklines initial style, also inspiring her creative and free painting spirit. Rockline arrived in Paris in 1921, and settled in the Montparnasse district. She began exhibiting in Paris in 1922 at the Salon dAutomne. Paul Poiret bought four of her paintings. She also exhibited at the Salon des Independants and the Salon des Tuileries. She had a one-woman exhibition at Galerie Vildrac in Paris in 1925, Paul Poiret wrote the preface of the catalog. In 1926 she exhibited at the Galerie Bernheim. In 1929 she exhibited at Galerie le Studio, and in 1930 at Galerie Barreiro, where she exhibited for the following four years. She was a member of the Union Russe des Arts. One of a kind artwork. Russian Soviet Fine Art For Collectors.
