CHINESE HAND CARVED SHOUSHAN STONE PIXIU FIGURE
An antique Chinese hand carved Shoushan stone fantastic animal Pixiu figure. Chinese mythical creatures Pixiu are considered powerful protectors of the souls of the dead. Circa: early 20th century. Shoushan stone carving is an art originating in Fujian Province in East China. The stones used in carving are also known as agalmatolite and are mined in the Shoushan village in northern Fujian.
