ANTIQUE SAFAVID PERSIAN PAINTING MARQUETRY FRAME
A miniature antique Persian mixed media, oil and watercolor, painting on board rendered in the Safavid Dynasty style. The painting depicts a scene with Majnoun playing harp in the desert, probably from Marwah wa al Majun al Faransi, a classical Middle Eastern love story. It is based on the legend of a young man named Shams al Faransy from Central Asia, born during the 14th century. There were many Arabic versions of the story at the time. Presented in a wooden frame made in a marquetry design, and adorned with traditional geometrical and floral ornaments. Circa: late 19th century to early 20th century.
