RUSSIAN SILVER ICON JOY OF ALL WHO SORROW
An antique 19th-century Russian Orthodox icon of Mother of God in Joy of All Who Sorrow iconography. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wooden board. Silver riza or oklad with repousse decor. Hallmark of 84 silver standard and makers marks are on the bottom of the Riza. In this Orthodox iconography, the Mother of God is depicted in the center surrounded by angels and suffering people, Jesus Christ blesses her from heaven. Wooden frame.
