POSTMODERN CHESS SET BY ARCHITECT MICHAEL GRAVES
Vintage 1990s and original Chess and Checkers Set in a Postmodern design by famous American architect Michael Graves. Board made of wood which is done with a mosaic inlaid of two variants of maple. The resin players are a composition. It has velvet storage compartments inside for the players when you wish to use the checkers game part. The wood as well as felt are the original from the set. Michael Graves was a Memphis Group designer and a member of the New York Five. Graves was a noted American architect and designer and a professor at Princeton University for more than four decades. This chess set has two complete sets of chess pieces. As part of the present lot, it includes a very detailed and complete book with the professional career of this architect, not only the buildings of his creations but also memorable examples of his designs. Rare item due scarcity and also the original untouched condition. No missing parts.
Dimensions: Board 17 3/4 x 18 x 2 3/4 in. Book 11 x 8 3/4 x 7/8 in. All measurements are approximate.
