JAPANESE SHOWA ERA SATSUMA PORCELAIN VASES FAN HANDLES
A pair of Japanese Satsuma pottery vases. Early Showa period, 1926 to 1989. Rounded shape, cylindrical neck with flared rims, gilt fan-shaped handles on the sides. The pieces are richly decorated with hand-painted traditional Japanese ornaments, gilding, and multi-figure scenes with geishas. Satsuma ware is a type of Japanese pottery which originated in Satsuma Province, since the 19th century it was mainly produced for Western export and therefore elaborately decorated.
