ANTIQUE JAPANESE MEIJI PERIOD INLAID BRONZE VASES
An excellent pair of antique Japanese patinated bronze vases of ovoid form dated from the Meiji period, 1868 to 1912. Inlaid all around with scenes depicting Handaka Sonja, a Lohan or disciple of Buddha, in mixed metals including gold, silver, and copper. One vase depicts Handaka Sonja riding a dragon, and the other vase depicts Handaka Sonja riding a tiger. Reverse is decorated with highly detailed inlaid images of fruiting branches.
