ANTIQUE 19 C. RUSSIAN ICON VIRGIN FROM THE DEESIS
A Russian Imperial Orthodox icon Virgin from the Deesis. The icon depicts the Virgin holding an open scroll in her left hand. Hand painted in egg tempera and gesso on wood board. The Deesis rite is an image of prayer for the human race, reminding believers of the Second Coming of Christ, the Last Judgment and the intercession of the saints before the Savior. Presumably Ural, the first half of the 19th-century. Russian Orthodox Icons, Antiques And Collectibles.
