ANTIQUE 19TH C. RUSSIAN ICON THEOTOKOS OF TIKHVIN
A traditional Russian Orthodox icon of the Tikhvinskaya Mother of God, dated from the mid to late 19th century. Hand painted in oil on a wood panel. In terms of composition the Tikhvin icon is of the Hodegetria type. The icon depicts the Mother of God, Who points to the Divine Infant Christ, seated on Her hand. The center of the composition is Christ, Who blesses with his right hand, and holds a rolled scroll in his left hand as a symbol of the Gospel.
