AN ANTIQUE ART NOUVEAU LEATHER BOX WEIDMAN 19 C.
A stunning Art nouveau Austrian leather-covered jewelry box with silk covered interior. The surface is decorated with embossed patterns, on the lid, there is an Alphonse Mucha style painting with three dancing figures in an ornated frame. Locked with a key. Marked in gold: J. Weidman, KuK. Kammerlieferant. Wien. The present lot on auction form part of the Kuranda's family estate. The provenance of items can be tracked back to Felix Kuranda in XIX Century Austrian Empire, member of a well known family of bankers and politicians; directly related to the Karpeles, Wittelshofer, Milne, And Lederer families. The most chronological recent lots are former belongings from USA veteran Major Thom Stellinger-Scott related through marriage with the Kuranda lineage. He was a veteran of the Korean War as well as a reputed amateur photographer and artist. The Stellinger-Scott family resided for decades at Montauk Long Island NY.
