netsuke Carved in Organic Material from Edo period.
A high-quality and ancient netsuke figurine from the 18th century, carved in organic material, depicting a Sennin named "Tobosaku Sennin" with an Oni climbing on his shoulder. He wears only a kimono with a grotesque expression on his face. In his left hand, he holds a fan, while his right hand firmly grasps the climbing Oni's leg. The long hair of the Sennin and the Oni are adorned with meticulously carved darkened engravings, creating an attractive patina resembling honey. The back of the figurine features a symmetrical pair of Himotoshi holes for holding the tobacco pipe. Originating from the Osaka/Kyoto area during the Edo period in the 18th century.
Height: 9 cm.
