Stoddard, a retailer based in New Haven, Connecticut. The lid features a central portrait of the Yale University mascot, Handsome Dan, a bulldog, with the text YALE and MASCOT flanking the image. The brand name HANDSOME DAN MIXTURE is printed in large, stylized yellow and gold-tone lettering against a deep blue background with decorative scrolls. The lower portion of the lid identifies the purveyor as L.L. STODDARD of NEW HAVEN, CONN. The side panels repeat the retailer name and include the text FINE TOBACCOS. One side of the tin displays a federal cautionary notice identifying the manufacturing location as Factory No 4, 2nd District of VA.
