Early 20th Century Elliott Protector Crystaloid Advertising Sign by Whitehead and Hoag - This is an original vintage advertising easel-back display sign for Elliott Protector earplugs, manufactured by the Whitehead and Hoag Company of Newark, New Jersey. The sign is constructed from printed cardboard finished with a high-gloss Crystaloid surface, which was a proprietary celluloid-based plastic coating used for indoor signage. The front design features a deep blue background with the brand name ELLIOTT PROTECTOR displayed in red serif lettering with gold and black outlining. The central graphic illustrates a human ear with a golden-colored ear protector device inserted. Text to the left of the ear reads SHIELDS THE EAR FROM DUST, NOISE, SEVERE VIBRATION, while text to the right states PREVENTS DEAFNESS, HEADACHE. RESTORES IMPAIRED HEARING. Each corner is embellished with a golden anchor-style motif. The reverse of the sign is covered in textured tan paper and features a functional fold-out easel stand for countertop use and a blue fabric ribbon loop for wall hanging.
