Bidspirit auction | 19th C Redware Cylindirical Ball

19th C Redware Cylindirical Ball - The object is constructed from a refined earthenware body and finished with a mottled lead glaze known as a tortoiseshell glaze. This decorative technique involves splashing metallic oxides, likely manganese and iron, over the body before applying a clear or yellowish lead glaze, resulting in irregular patches of ochre and dark brownish-purple on a honey-yellow ground. The globular form is uniformly perforated with numerous small, circular holes. The surface exhibits a glossy finish with overall fine glaze crazing. No maker marks, factory stamps, or inscriptions are visible on the exterior. Bid directly at Bid.Ziebarths.com for a reduced buyers premium (18%).
