The photo shows a rare view of an Apache Indan boy from the Santa Fe Indian School dressed in Western Anglo Attire. Thje photograph was taken at the Tertio Millenial Fair in 1883 at Santa Fe, New Mexico and is either a Ben Wittick of Dana B. Chase photograph; both were major photographers at the Fair. It measures 3 7/8” by 5 1/2”. ” Indian School” photographs often were taken at the institutions with a ”before” and ”after” image with the children in their native dress and a later photograph after they had been ”educated”. A poignant photograph of this late 19th Century period.
