Discovery! The book Hezkat Chaim by the holy genius Rabbi Chaim Kitze [Schlesinger] Av Beit Din Irsha - Simanim 11-16 from his lost composition 'Hezkat Chaim' in the handwriting of his Holiness of blessed memory

A scholars holiday!! the revelation of writings from the book 'Hezkat Haim' by the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Kitze Av Beit Din Irsha, author of Otzar Ha'Haim. The manuscript in front of us is from his lost composition 'Hezkat Haim', which was the grandsons of the author wrote that it was lost them along with many more of his compositions.

In the manuscript before us there are Simanin 11-16 from his lost composition, in his writings he mentions his other books several times, these books are all mentioned in the introduction to Otsar Ha'im written by the author's grandsons when the Otsar Ha'im was printed.

In the following lines we will detail the content of the Simanim in front of us, and the list of his books that he mentions in his words:

Our Rabbi's sacred manuscript before us contains 24 pages of a notebook and is part of his book "Hezekat Haim" including Simanim 11 to 16. In eloquent and clear writing in brown ink on gray paper.

A little confusion in the order of the pages. That is, the 11th Siman appears among the other Simanim after Siman 14.

On each page was written the title "Hezkat Haim".

Rabbi Haim Kitze [Schlesinger] Rabbi of Irsha, was born around the year 1770 to his father Rabbi Yitzhak Kitze Rabbi of old Oben. His sister married Rabbi Shimon Kelin, the grandson of the Makhtzit Ha'Shekel. He received most of his teachings from his father and from Rabbi Moshe Mintz, the rabbi of the place, later went abroad to the yeshiva of rabbi Wolf Rapaport. He married the daughter of Rabbi Yisrael Beryl of Warfelta, a student of the Noda Be'Yehuda and father-in-law of Rabbi Amram Hasida of Zfat.

After three years of sitting in his father-in-law's house, he moved to the city of Vesperim, where he was elected a Dayan for nineteen years. During this time, his 10 children were born and his community was unable to support him properly. After he delivered a eulogy for the rabbi of Irsha Rabbi Moshe Bodek, the local people appointed him to replace him. He served there from the year 1820 until his death in 1849.

Among his students we should mention his older sons as well as Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Glick of Tolceva author of Yad Yitzhak and Rabbi Israel Meir Freiman of Ostrova son-in-law of the Aruch Le'ner.

The greats men of his generation, including the Hatam Sofer marveled at the genius and wonderful poignancy of "the rabbi the marvelous genius, a miracle worker... sharp and well versed... righteous and humble as Hillel, his name in the gate of many people will be praised" [from Otzar Haim]. And even in the generation following Rabbi Yeshaya Zilberstein author of the "Ma'asai La'Melech" writes about him: "How honored we are today in the exile that holy manuscripts were discovered from the rabbi the great genius, sharp and terribly knowledgeable, righteous and humble... and I marveled at the power of his knowledge of Rishonim and Achronim..."

His enormous sharpness and rare knowledge is revealed in his more than 60 books, most of which include his name Haim in their names, such as Hefetz Haim, Shvilei Haim, and more. In 1913, one of his books was printed for the first time under the name 'Otzar Haim', including seventy-one responses. In 1982, his descendants from the Pirta family in Williamsburg, New York, published the two volumes of his book 'Sh'not Haim'. Over 60 books remain in manuscript, while some have been lost. Attached is the confirmation of Rabbi Yehuda Horowitz, an expert on the handwriting of the great men of Israel, who worked on the manuscript and was present at the wonderful discovery.

יומא טבא נעביד לרבנן, בהתגלות תכריך כתבים מספרו 'חזקת חיים של הגאון רבי חיים קיצע אב"ד אירשא בעל אוצר החיים. כתב היד שלפנינו הינו מתוך חיבורו 'חזקת חיים' אשר כבר בעת אופיע לראשונה ספרו אוצר החיים, כתבו נכדי המחבר שכתב יד זה אבד מהם יחד עם רבים נוספים מחיבוריו.

בכתב היד שלפנינו ישנם סימנים יא-טז מתוך חיבורו זה האבוד, בתוך כתביו מזכיר מספר פעמים את יתר ספריו, ספריו אלו מוזכרים כולם בהקדמת אוצר החיים שכתבו נכדי המחבר בעת הדפסת ספר אוצר החיים.

יג. מיתת שאול המלך, בסימן זה מציין מספר פעמים לספריו האחרים: 'וכבר כתבתי אני בספרי אור החיים ח"ב'. ו'בספרי חזקת חברים'. "עיין מה שכתבתי בספרי נתיבי חיים ח"ג סי' ק"א.

יד. מכות טז. בטלו ולא ביטלו, בסימן זה מציין לספריו האחרים: ועין קצות החושן וב"ספרי מקור חיים" ובספרי פעולת חיים חלק ד']

רבינו חיים קיצע [שלזינגר] אב״ד אירשא זי"ע, נולד בערך שנת תק״ל לאביו הג"ר יצחק קיצע ראב"ד אובן ישן. אחותו נישאה לגאון רבי שמעון קעלין נכד המחצית השקל. רוב תורתו קיבל מאביו ומהג"ר משה מינץ רב המקום, אח"כ גלה לישיבת הג"ר וולף רפפורט מפאפא ה׳שמלת בנימין׳. נישא לבת הג"ר ישראל בריל אב״ד וורפלטה, תלמיד הנודע ביהודה וחותנו של הג"ר עמרם חסידא מצפת.

אחרי שלוש שנות ישיבה בבית חותנו עבר לעיר ווספרים שבה נבחר לדיין למשך י״ט שנים. במהלכן נולדו 10 ילדיו וקצרה יד קהילתו לפרנסו כראוי. לאחר שנשא הספד על רבה של אירשא הג"ר משה בודק מינוהו בני המקום לממלא מקומו. שם שימש משנת תק"פ עד לפטירתו בשנת תר"ט.

מבין תלמידיו יש לציין את בניו הגדולים וכן את הג"ר אברהם יצחק גליק מטולצ'בה מחבר יד יצחק והג"ר ישראל מאיר פריימן אב"ד אוסטרובה חתנו של הערוך לנר.

גדולי דורו כולל מרן החת"ס התפעלו מגאונות וחריפות נפלאה של "הרב הגאון המופלא, עושה פלא... חריף ובקי באורייתא, בקדמייתא ובתרייתא, צדיק ועניו כהלל, שמו בשער בת רבים יהולל" [מתוך אוצר חיים סי' ט]. ואף בדור שלאחריו קורא עליו הג"ר רבי ישעי׳ זילברשטיין ה"מעשי למלך": "מה נכבד היום בהגלות נגלות כתבי יד קודש מהרב הגאון העצום החריף ובקי נורא, צדיק ועניו... ותמהתי על עוצם בקיאותו מראשונים עד גדולי האחרונים...".

חריפותו העצומה ובקיאותו הנדירה מתגלית מתוך מעל 60 חיבוריו שרובם כוללים בשמם את שמו חיים, כמו חפץ חיים, שבילי החיים ועוד. בתרע"ג נדפס ממנו לראשונה אחד מספריו בשם שו״ת ׳אוצר חיים׳ כולל שבעים ואחת תשובות. בשנת תשמ"ב ההדירו צאצאיו ממשפחת פירטה בויליאמסבורג ניו יורק, את שני כרכי ספרו 'שנות חיים'. מעל 60 ספרים נותרו בכת"י כשחלקם נאבדו. ראה רשימת ספריו במבוא 'זכר חיים' לתולדותיו מאת הרב דב ברל שוורץ.

מצורף אישור הרב יהודה הורביץ, מומחה לכתבי ידם של גדולי ישראל, אשר עבד על כתב היד ונוכח בתגלית הנפלאה.
