Eight New Year's Letters from the Rebbe Rabbi Chaim Moshe Yehoshua Schneerson-Tversky grandson of the middle Rebbe

Rabbi Chaim Moshe Yehoshua Shneerson-Tversky (1870- 1959) was the rebbe of Tomashpol (and Kovidinov), and the fourth generation (son after son) of the Alter rebbe.

He was born around 1870 to his father, the Rebbe Rabbi Mordechai Dober Tversky of Tomoshpol (son of Rabbi Menachem Nachum Schneerson of Niezan, son of the middle Rebbe, son of the Alter Rebbe), and was educated in Hasidism and Torah study by his grandfather, the middle Rebbe's son-in-law Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael Tversky of Tscharkas

At a young age he was ordained to rabbinate by the Gaon Rabbi David Friedman known as Rabbi David Karliner and by the Gaon Rabbi Menachem Nachum Yerushalemsky.

After his marriage, he depended on his father-in-law Rabbi Yosef of Kudnov, and devoted himself very much to the affairs of the city and helped a lot to Kollel Kudnov in the Land of Israel. He founded a large and inclusive yeshiva in Kudnov and headed it upon the death of his father-in-law.

Because of the communist revolution and the rise of the Bolshevik regime in Russia in 1924, he immigrated to the United States, and established a seminary there where the remnants of the First World War and then the remnants of the Second World War the followers of Chernobyl Tomeshpol and Koidnov, gathered.

Around the year 1940, the Rebbe moved his Beit Midrash near 770, on Eastern Parkway Street in the Crown Heights neighborhood, close to the Beit Midrash of his relative, the Lubavitcher Rebbe. The Rayat"z was friendly with him and used to visit him often.

The Rebbe was one of the founders of the purity of the family in the United States. He worked extensively in cooperation with Camp Israel (Chabad) for the sake of the purity of the family and established hundreds of mikvahs throughout the United States.

The Rebbe passed away on the 11th of Elul 5719. The Rebbe attended his funeral, and later he even came to comfort the mourners.

האדמו"ר רבי חיים משה יהושע שניאורסון־טברסקי (תר"ל - תשי"ט) היה האדמו"ר מטומשפול (וקוידינוב), ודור רביעי (בן אחר בן) של אדמו"ר הזקן.

נולד בערך בשנת תר"ל לאביו האדמו"ר רבי מרדכי דובער טברסקי מטומושפול (בנו של רבי מנחם נחום שניאורסון מניעזן, בנו של האדמו"ר האמצעי, בנו של האדמו"ר הזקן), ונתחנך לחסידות ולימוד התורה על ידי סביו חתנו של האדמו"ר האמצעי הרב יעקב ישראל טברסקי מטשרקאס.

בגיל צעיר נסמך לרבנות על ידי הגאון הרב דוד פרידמן הידוע בשם רבי דוד'ל קרלינר ועל ידי הגאון הרב מנחם נחום ירושלמסקי.

אחרי נישואיו היה סמוך על שולחן חותנו רבי יוסף מקודנוב, והתמסר מאוד לענייני העיר ועזר הרבה לכולל קודנוב בארץ ישראל. ייסד בקודנוב ישיבה גדולה וכולל ועמד בראשה על לפטירת חותנו.

מפני המהפכה הקומוניסטית ועליית שלטון הבולשביקים ברוסיה בשנת תרפ"ד היגר לארצות הברית, והקים שם את בית מדרשו בו התקבצו שרידי מלחמת העולם הראשונה ולאחר מכן שרידי מלחמת העולם השנייה חסידי צ'רנוביל טומשפול וקוידנוב.

בסביבות שנת ת"ש (1940) העביר האדמו"ר את בית מדרשו סמוך ל-770, ברחוב איסטרען פארקווי שבשכונת קראון הייטס בסמיכות לבית מדרשו של קרוב משפחתו הרבי הריי"צ מחב"ד. הריי"צ היה מיודד עמו ונהג לבקרו לעיתים קרובות.

האדמו"ר היה ממייסדי טהרת המשפחה בארצות הברית פעל רבות בשיתוף עם מחנה ישראל (חב"ד) למען טהרת המשפחה והקים מאות מקוואות ברחבי ארצות הברית.

האדמו"ר נפטר בי"א אלול תשי"ט. בהלווייתו השתתף הרבי, ואחר כך הוא אף הגיע גם לנחם את האבלים.
