Still Life Oil Painting attributed to Pierre Bonnard (1867-1947). Oil on Primed Board. Markings on verso: "P. Bonnard 1932" in ink on board, and in pencil on frame "BONNARD" and other hard-to-discern writing. Housed in a custom beveled wood frame. Approx. 29.5" H x 37" W. From 1900 onwards, Bonnard's palette became richer in color and his brushstrokes became thicker, impasto. Bonnard's brushwork was impressionist in style, with layered, close-in-value brushstrokes. He shared this method with Vuillard. This more Impressionist technique and choice of subject matter (interiors, still life, family scenes at the table) became known as Intimism. Pierre Bonnard was a French Post-Impressionist painter and a leading figure in the transition from Impressionism to Modernism. His work is known for its bold compositions, use of color, and wit.
