Description: Christ at Emmaus: the larger plate; Christ seated at a table at the center, breaking bread and offering it to his disciples, one man with clasped hands standing at left, two more standing along a balustrade at right with a dog behind them, a curtain behind the table, foliage visible beyond at right; posthumous fifth state with vertical shading in left table leg continued to the lower edge, with the shading beneath Christ's feet re-worked with horizontal and diagonal lines; after shadows have been strengthened using a mezzotint rocker; re-worked by Henri Louis Basan workshop; from an edition of the Recueil published by Henri Louis Basan c. 1809 [The superior quality of the receuil is consistent with Nowell-Usticke's assessment that 'The first albums published by Henri-Louis are very comparable to his father's receuils in both quality and the paper on which they are printed'].
