Large Signed Original Caproni High Relief Sculpture Panel - Description: Large antique plaster sculpture by the renowned Italian American sculptor Pietro Paulo Caproni (1862 – 1928) (P.P Caproni and Brother) after Bertel Thorvaldsen's Sculpture Relief Of Alexander The Great's Triumphal Entry In Babylon - Slab A (this is the first portion of the multiple piece / slab sculpture) | This high-relief plaster cast panel sculpture has a classical theme featuring a street scene with a merchant, camel, and strolling figures. Date: Circa 1901 - 1905. The sculpture is signed by the artist on verso with the pre-1932 Caproni medallion. P.P. Caproni and Brother operated from 1892-1927. Before WWII, most of the major museums in the United States had Caproni Sculptures in their collection, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Approx. Dimensions: 41.75” W x 24.25” H x 2.25” D. The verso of the panel includes large steel loops for hanging.
