Rare 18th c. Italian Engraving ABRAHAM After Guido Reni by Giovanni Ottaviani - Description: Very Rare 18th c. Italian Engraving Entitled ABRAHAM After Guido Reni by Giovanni Ottaviani - Part of what was a set of thirteen 18th Century engravings reproducing fresco paintings by Guido Reni (1575-1642), executed c.1610 in the Cappella dell’ Annunziata, the private chapel of the papal residence on the Quirinale | Rome, [anonymous publisher], c. 1780. Inscription: Engraving is inscribed lower center with ”ABRAHAM” and contains three attribution signatures/inscriptions: LL: ”Guidus Reni pinx”; LC: ”Angeletti delin.”; LR ”Goan. Ottaviani incid.” Artist or Maker: After Guido Reni (1575-1642), by Giovanni Ottaviani. Medium: Engraving on fine laid watermarked paper. Date: 1780 Dimensions: Approx. Folio size engraving struck on fine watermarked laid paper - Sheet: 22” H x 15.75” W; Plate Marks: 14.75” H x 6” W. Condition: Very Good Impression with broad margins. Some toning / foxing to outer margins. Comes in a custom mat. History: One of 13 prints by Carlo and Giovanni Ottaviani reproducing the fresco decorations executed by Guido Reni and assistants (probably Antonio Carracci and Alessandro Albani) | Approx. Folio size engraving struck on unwatermarked laid paper | Reni's frescoes were drawn by Pietro Angeletti (1737–1798) for the printmakers Carlo and Giovanni Ottaviani (1735–1808). This plate was derived from the pendentives beside the main altar, four single figures from the Old Testament: Jacob, Abraham, Isaac, Adam (each 375 × 150 mm platemarks, sheets 540 × 400 mm), engraved by Giovanni Ottaviani.
