Rare & Important Scottish Instrument of Sasine of Thomas Hutchinson of Carlowrie Castle - NFT Included - Extremely Rare & Important 19th Century Scottish Instrument of Sasine of Thomas & Robert Hutchison of Carlowrie Castle [Edinburgh, Scotland]. The Instrument of Sasine / Deed is in favor of Mr. Robert Hutchison of the lands owned by his father Thomas Hutchison (d. 8 May 1852)(a prosperous wine merchant and the Provost of Leith), ”all and whole The Temple Lands of Nether Carlowrie which were formerly possessed for time immemorial by Alexander Earl of Linlithgow” and other lands such as ”all and whole The Temple Lands of Over Carlowrie which were formerly possessed for time immemorial by the late William Hamilton merchant in Edinburgh” and further lands in the same general area. Upon acquiring the Temple Lands, Thomas Hutchison commissioned Carlowrie Castle to be built, intended it to be his new family home. Unfortunately, Thomas was unable to see the castle completed, having died in 1852. Thomas left the buildings and land to his son Robert who completed the castle at a total price of approx. £33,000, a considerable fortune at the time. Temple Lands were lands once owned by the Knights Templar. Temple Liston was located in West-Lothian on the Almond River in Linlithgowshire, which is now called Kirkliston. The property was granted to the Templars in the 12th Century. The Templars are known to have had a temple in Liston. The instrument is signed by two witnesses, Will Arch Howison and Alex M. Wilson, Henry Tod / Rod a Notary Public, and A. Pringle, Registrar of Seisins | Attached to the document is a embossed blue 5 shillings Royal tax stamp, Scotland Royal ink stamps, etc.
