Important 1801 English Indenture / Conveyance Converting Tenants in Common to Two Separate Fee Simple Estates - A large rare and important 1801 two-page English Indenture / Deed dated the 23rd day of October, 1801, Converting Property held as Tenants in Common into Two Separate Fee Simple Estates | The thick vellum 2 page document is a conveyance of the real property known as the Bigby Green Field (132 total acres) from the prominent Elwes Family via Robert Cary-Elwes, Esq. (1772-1852) of Billing in the County of Northampton AND Reverend Charles Drake Barnard (d. 1833), Rector of the Parish Church of Bigby, County of Lincolnshire (Rectory of Bigby)(2 acres of interest) as Tenants in Common INTO and divided as two separate and distinct fee simple real property estates; Elwes - 130 acres in interest and Barnard - 2 acres in interest | The Bigby Green Field was comprised of 132 total undivided acres of pasture land | Approx. Size: 23” H x 30.5” W. Robert Cary-ELWES, Esq. (1772-1852) - In 1800, Robert Cary-Elwes, originally of Roxby, Lincolnshire, acquired Great Billing Hall [Georgian-style mansion], which by then had been rebuilt in the Palladian style by John Carr for the property’s previous owner, Lord John Cavendish, in 1776. Great Billing Pocket Park in Northampton now occupies what was once part of the Billing Hall estate. At that time, the Elwes family acquired a great deal of land in Billing while selling and reorganizing lands and estates owned in Lincolnshire and Hertfordshire. This INDENTURE was part of that period of reorganization. Rev.
