A Louis XVI style gilt bronze mounted mahogany marble-top commode A Vantaux - A French Louis XVI style gilt bronze mounted fine mahogany commode a Vantaux after the original model by Joseph Stockel and Guillaume Benneman. Height: 36 1/2 inches X Width: 71 inches X Depth: 26 1/2 inches. After the original model which was supplied to Queen Marie-Antoinette in 1786 for the Salon des jeux at Fontainebleau. A fine piece Surmounted by a ivory grey veined Villefranche de Conflent marble top above three frieze drawers centered by a lion mask escutcheon and above two paneled doors opening to six drawers, flanked by fluted and columnar uprights, front and sides decorated with a gilt-bronze roundel modeled with bacchanal scenes.A Louis XVI Style Gilt Bronze Mounted Commode a Vantaux Condition: In very good original condition, the marble has had a professional vein crack repair but barely visible. All in all a superb commode in excellent condition.Very heavy , This item is over 250 pounds.
