The sight measures 40 inches wide by 50 inches long. The Work is not signed but bares a label in verso indicating it was acquired directly from the estate of the artist. A well executed portrait painting by the artist delivering a masterful realism with penetrating gaze in the eyes of the subject. Augustus Vincent Tack was an American painter of portraits, landscapes and abstractions. Augustus V Tack paintings are on display on the following major art institutions: National Gallery of art, Phillips collection, Museum of Modern Art MOMA, Marshall Foundation, Metropolitan Museum of Art and Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery. This is a large scale portrait painting of United states Diplomat & Under Secretary of State Honorable Joseph Clark Grew. Mr. Grew served during presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt & Harry S. Truman. The American Ambassador Who Tried to Prevent Pearl Harbor.About the Subject: Honorable Joseph Clark Grew was born on May 27, 1880 & died on May 25, 1965. He was an American career diplomat and Foreign Service officer. He is best known as the ambassador to Japan from 1932 to 1941 and as a high official in the State Department in Washington from 1944 to 1945.
