Anthology of supplications and prayers for women. For candle-lighting; for immersion night, for bearing a male child, and more. With instructions and explanations in Italian. Ink on parchment. Italy, 18th century. Miniature.
Beautiful vowelized manuscript, on deerskin parchment. The manuscript was prepared especially for a woman named Virtuosa daughter of Rosa, whose name is integrated into one of the prayers.
The manuscript includes: A prayer for before and after candle-lighting; prayer and blessing for immersion; prayer upon leaving the mikveh building; prayer for immersion night; prayer for a male child; prayer for a spouse; prayer to relieve the pains of pregnancy and for an easy birth; prayer for the newborn child; prayer that milk for the baby will not be lacking; prayer to be rescued from damagers, spells and the evil eye.
[24] leaves, 7x10 cm. Block Italian script, vowelized. Fine condition. Lack at the end and apparently also two leaves in two places. Two detached leaves. Original leather binding with gilt decorations and imprint of the name of the woman for whom it was written. The front binding bears the initials U.S., and the back binding, U. A.
