Collection: Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook: [5] Rare and Important Books

* Arpilei Tohar by Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook [Jaffa, A. Itin Press, 1914] - sefer cancelled in the middle of printing.

Early work by Rabbi Kook discussing topics in Divine service and the period preceding the arrival of Mashiach. In a letter to his son, Rabbi Tzvi Yehudah, in Iyyar 1914, the rabbi writes, "I became inspired to print some of my notes as they are, and I have started to print them at Itin's under the name Arpilei Tohar ..."

Various opinions have been expressed as to the reason why the printing was stopped. Was it because his son, Rabbi Tzvi Yehudah, and his associates, recommended stopping - whether due to criticism they expected it would bring about, or for completely technical reasons? A. M. Haberman writes in his article on sefarim that were not completed in print "The sefer contains matters of mussar and sanctity, and the printing was apparently stopped because the generation was not yet ready to receive its content."

The sefer was printed in the original without a title page, and only pages 1-80 were printed. The sefer was not reprinted for many decades - not until 1983, when it was reprinted by Machon Hartzy"h, in a revised edition with changes, censored and with supplements.

* Eleh Masei - documentation of the rabbis' journeys to the colonies. Frankfurt am Main, 1916. The Eleh Masei booklet is a list of the trips the rabbis from Ve'idah L'Haramat Keren HaDat V'HaYahadut B'Eretz HaKodesh took to tour all of the colonies in the Galilee in the winter of 1914. Frankfurt am Main, 1916. Documentation of the rabbis' tour of the colonies including the participation of Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook, Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld and additional rabbis, per the notes by Rabbi Yehonatan Binyamin Horowitz.

* Ikvei HaTzon - collection of ma'amarim by Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook, av beit din of Jaffa and the colonies. Jerusalem, 1906.

This is the first sefer by Rabbi Kook printed in the Land of Israel. It was published by Rabbi Shmuel HaKohen Kook, the author's brother.

[2] 72 pp. Jacket cover added.

* Orot - "Orot Me'upal" and "Orot HaTechiyah" by Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Kook. First edition. Jerusalem, 1920. Polemic.

In this sefer, Rabbi Kook presents the principles of his approach to the revival of the nation. This is the first edition, printed by the Lishkat HaMerkaz shel Histadrut Yerushalayim which caused a big controversy.

Immediately upon the publication of this sefer, another booklet came out in Jerusalem entitled Kol HaShofar which attacks Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook, and even charges him with apostasy. His close disciple Rabbi Ya'akov Moshe Charlop was forced to defend his teacher's approach, published as Tovim Me'orot.

 [4] 123 [1] p.

* Torat HaNazir - insights and elucidations about nezirut arranged with Hilchot Nezirut L'HaRamba"m, by Rabbi Yitzchak Hutner. Kovno, 1932. First edition.

The author printed this sefer when he was only 26 years old! Approbations by Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinsky, Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook and Rabbi Avraham Dovber Kahana Shapira, author of Dvar Avraham.

[2], 137, [1] page. Jacket cover.
