Museum Item: Machzor for the Shaliach Tzibbur from the Pinchas Synagogue in Prague
Machzor for the prayer leader in a huge format. Including prayers for weekdays, Shabbat, Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur, Selichot, hymns, customs and many supplements. Per the custom of Pihem, Poland, Ungarin and Mehrin, with a commentary by Rabbi Moshe Shedel. Part I. Prague, 1799.
Uncommon machzor. Some erroneously thought that it was printed in 1785, as appears from the year detail on the title page, with the understanding that it stated 'לו' where it actually states "לך" before [ה'] 'אתחנן. Several similar machzorim for prayer leaders were printed in Prague in the late 1700s, and the printers state on the title page that this one has superior virtues.
Pedigree copy: This copy was used by shelichei tzibbur at the renowned eponymous Pinchas synagogue - the synagogue was founded in the 15th century by a Jew named Pinchas. (The structure presently serves as something of a Holocaust memorial museum.) Inscribed sticker on the flyleaf indicating that the sefer was donated posthumously by someone who left it to the Pinchas synagogue so that shaliach tzibbur could pray from it on Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur in his memory.
Impressive copy. Printed on thick paper. Blue velvet binding with red stickers.
